Katy Perry Makes Light of Her Las Vegas Eye Problem with Joke
Katy Perry, best known for her hit single “Teenage Dream” recently announced 14 additional dates for her Katy Perry: PLAY concert series in Las Vegas for 2023. In doing so, she may have indirectly addressed a viral video that has some fans concerned about her health.
Katy’s right eye may be seen closing on its own in the film that was uploaded to TikTok on October 23. The eye opens briefly whenever she touches her temple, then quickly closes again. The singer, who is wearing a bright minidress made out of recycled soda cans, takes the mike calmly and encourages the crowd, “make even more noise for my band.”
Katy teased that the eye closure was part of her show in an Instagram post on October 27: “Welcoming all my #flatearthers #spaceisfakers #birdsarentrealers #skyisntbluers to come see my broken doll eye party trick IRL in Vegas next year!” Many of her fans had assumed that the singer’s eye had closed due to stress or lack of sleep, but Katy insisted that it was all part of the show.
Katy turned the occasion into an Instagram meme by superimposing the caption “POV: when you see new 2023 PLAY dates.”
She then continued the remark with an emoji of a winking tongue out and the words, “Heck I pour beer out of my tits (that’s a party trick too… I don’t actually lactate hops silly goose!).”
Users had already begun to speculate that the phenomenon was a prank for her act before the “California Gurls” singer officially addressed it. One account commented on the TikTok posted on October 22 with, “In the show, her character is a doll and in a Toy Story type of environment. Her eye is blinking like one of those blinking eye dolls for the show.”
What more can viewers of her show anticipate? The 38-year-old singer has promised to play some of her early songs, along with some more surprises.
Katy captioned her Oct. 27 image with, “The set list is a fun [rollercoaster ride] through memory lane going all the way back to 2008, a time when we were not all frozen by the paranoia of our own echo chambers!”
“This show is a nonstop party about finding unconditional love.” she went on to say.
