Karol G, a prominent singer who was born in Medellin and has spoken up about the ties his family shares with the late drug trafficker several years after his death.
Her parents were poor, and by the time she was born, they had already met Escobar.
Her mother worked as a waitress in Medellin, where she was living in dire poverty.
She met Escobar, widely regarded as a man who assisted the less fortunate by constructing schools and parks, through her job as a waitress.
Karol G.’s mother worked at a restaurant where Escobar left a sizable tip.
Although this money helped the famous singer’s family financially, Karol G does not like Escobar.
A common misconception about her homeland is that “all we have there is drug trafficking and drugs,” she explained.
“And no, that era is over. I still see people talking about Pablo Escobar, because people see him as a character and they see him because he appears in a series, but in my country he is something that caused a lot of damage.”
