Juventus fell to their third Serie A defeat of the season

In Serie A, Juventus were defeated 2-1 at home by Sassuolo, with Maxime Lopez’s stoppage-time goal startling Massimiliano Allegri’s team. In the first half, the hosts were much off the pace and fell behind to a great team goal from Sassuolo two minutes before halftime, with Davide Frattesi finishing well when placed through on goal.

In the second half, Juve ramped up their game, with Juan Cuadrado having a powerful shot pushed off the line and Federico Chiesa missing with a header. In the 76th minute, McKennie smashed a header into the net, much to the relief of everyone in the Juventus Stadium.

Juve threw everything at Sassuolo in the hopes of finding a winner, but they were caught off guard in the 95th minute when Lopez sprinted clear before lofting a superb finish into the net to give his side the win.

Champions Internazionale returned to winning form with a 2-0 victory over Empoli. Inter came back into the game after a promising start and took the lead due to Danilo D’Ambrosio’s well-timed header in the 34th minute.

Inter was in complete control after Samuele Ricci of Empoli was sent off six minutes into the second half for a reckless tackle on Nicolo Barella. Inter took advantage of their numerical advantage in the 66th minute as Federico Dimarco scored a 2-0 lead for the visitors.

Radamel Falcao’s first-half goal was enough to give Rayo Vallecano a 1-0 triumph over Barcelona, as the Catalans suffered their second consecutive La Liga setback.

Following their weekend setback by rivals Real Madrid, Wednesday’s result would have added to coach Ronald Koeman’s pressure, as his side has won only two of their past seven league games and is ninth in the standings with 15 points.

After Barça captain Sergio Busquets lost the ball in midfield, allowing Rayo to launch a rapid counter-attack that resulted in the goal, Colombian attacker Falcao pounced in the 30th minute. Falcao finished off in style by finding the back of the net after gliding past Gerard Piqué.

In the 72nd minute, Barça had a golden chance to equalize, but Rayo goalie Stole Dimitrievski stopped Memphis Depay’s penalty kick.

Real Madrid was held to a goalless draw by Osasuna to finish a day of bizarre outcomes.

With a remarkable second-half equalizer in a 1-1 draws away to Real Mallorca, Érik Lamela came off the bench to gain Sevilla a point and top spot in La Liga.

Sevilla was held at the Son Moix in the first half and fell down in the 22nd minute when Antonio Sánchez scored Amath Ndiaye’s low cross from close range.

Mallorca squandered a golden opportunity to double their advantage early in the second half when Rodrguez smashed a close-range shot against the post.

However, they continued to dominate, and Argentinian striker Lamela, who came on in place of Suso in the 53rd minute, leveled the score in the 73rd minute with a cut-in from the right and an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Borussia Mönchengladbach scored three goals in the first 21 minutes to crush German champions Bayern Munich 5-0 and knock them out of the German Cup second round for the first time in their history.

Gladbach got off to a flying start with two goals from Ramy Bensebaini and one from Kouadio Kone, putting them in command before Breel Embolo scored twice in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Marseille drew 1-1 with Nice in a postponed match after Dimitri Payet scored his sixth league goal of the season. After Amine Gouiri had given Nice the lead, Payet equalized in the 41st minute.
