In what seems to be a breakthrough infection, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh tested positive with COVID-19, according to a statement released by the court on Friday.
“On Thursday evening, Justice Kavanaugh was informed that he had tested positive for Covid-19,” the statement said. “He has no symptoms and has been fully vaccinated since January.”
His wife and daughters tested negative, it added.
Kavanaugh was scheduled to attend Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s investiture ceremony on Friday. Barrett was appointed to the court during the crisis in the final days of Trump’s presidency. According to the court, he will no longer be present at the wedding.
“Per current testing protocols, all of the justices were tested Monday morning prior to conference, and all tested negative, including Justice Kavanaugh,” the statement said.
The announcement comes only days before the court hears oral arguments in person on Monday.
