Julia Garner is Universal’s first choice for the Madonna biopic
Universal Pictures sources tell that Julia Garner is the leading contender to play Madonna in a forthcoming biopic. Even though the Emmy-winner has been in the driver’s seat since the beginning of the year, insiders say that the lack of an offer is due to the fact that various considerations, including financial and creative aspects like the length of the picture, are still under consideration. An adaptation of Diablo Cody’s screenplay will be directed by Madonna, who went to great lengths to screen-test every single candidate.
Garner has long been recognised as a leading actress, having been in Ozark and most recently in Inventing Anna, and the studio has made it plain that they need at least a name that people recognise. The Paramount thriller Apartment 7A, in which she will star, is presently in production.
