Joker: Folie à Deux Teaser Promo Confirms Lady Gaga’s Role
Even before the release of this new teaser promo, we have known for months that Lady Gaga was circling the Joker sequel role that she will play alongside Joaquin Phoenix. Following her Oscar-nominated performance in A Star Is Born in 2021’s House of Gucci (2019). In October 2024, Warner Bros. will release the DC film Joker: Folie à Deux, directed by Todd Phillips, the man behind the blockbuster success of the 2019 original. You can view the teaser here:
Even if Todd Phillips is back as director, we still do not know much about the plot of Joker’s sequel. He collaborated on the script with Scott Silver, as he did on the original. In the Suicide Squad movies, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is played by Margot Robbie, but we have heard that Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn – the Arkham Asylum therapist who falls in love with her patient Arthur Fleck, aka Joker.
It was fascinating to see how Fleck, a mentally ill stand-up comedian, went on to become the inspiration for Batman’s most infamous nemesis, as depicted by Phillips’ 2019 Joker. The picture raked in more than $1 billion throughout the world and won Phoenix his first Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Gaga made her cinematic debut in Warner Bros.’ A Star Is Born, a musical drama directed by Bradley Cooper and produced by Phillips. As Patrizia Reggiani in MGM and United Artists Releasing’s House of Gucci, the actress and pop diva sang “Hold My Hand” for Top Gun: Maverick, which has now made over $750 million worldwide.
