Jason Momoa shaves his head for single-use plastics awareness
On Monday, the “Aquaman” actor shaved his head and posted a photo to Instagram to raise awareness about the need to get single-use plastics “out of our lives and out of our seas.”
Momoa said as he displayed clumps of his newly shorn hair, “Shaving off the hair… doing it for single-use plastics.” “I’m tired of these plastic bottles, we gotta stop. Plastic forks and all that s—. It just goes into our land, it goes into our ocean.”
The 43-year-old actor expressed his dismay at the status of the ecosystem on his native island of Hawaii.
It makes me so sad to be in Hawaii right now and see the state of our ocean. Please support me in every way you can by reducing your use of plastic products.
His video was accompanied by the caption, “Heres to new beginnings let’s spread the aloha, be better at protecting our land and oceans. we need to cut single use plastics out of our lives and out of our seas. plastic bottles, plastic bags ,packaging, utensils all of it. let’s aloha our ‘āina together aloha.”
Momoa’s recent hair-free publicity stunt for environmental causes is not the first time he is done something like this.
The famed “Game of Thrones” actor shaved his beard in 2019 to bring attention to the fact that “plastics are killing our planet.”
Momoa promoted recycling and reusing aluminium cans over plastic bottles in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
In the video, which is three years old, he can be heard saying, “About 75% of all aluminium that’s ever been used is still in circulation today and it’s 100% recyclable, “So you drink the [aluminum] can and in about 60 days, it’ll be back.”
The video was meant to advertise his Mananalu brand of aluminium water bottles.
A little over two months after he was in a motorcycle accident outside Los Angeles, Momoa decided to shave his head. In the July collision, both the actor and the rider escaped hurt.
The “Dune” star and his longtime partner, Lisa Bonet, announced their separation earlier this year.
All of us have felt the pressure and adjustments of these revolutionary times… Our family is not immune to the transformation that is sweeping the globe. Momoa and Bonet wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post that they were “feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring.”
“We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy — But so that —as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty,” Momoa continued. “The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other — to be who we are learning to become… Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our Children.”
