Issey Miyake, a well-known Japanese fashion designer, has died
He was 84 years old and was most known for his avant garde fashion designs and innovations. He passed away in a Tokyo hospital. In the 1970s, Issey Miyake became well-known for his technology-driven designs, bright, flamboyant aesthetics, and origami-like pleats, earning him the moniker ‘Prince of Pleats.’
Founded in 1970, the Miyake Design Studio has gone on to produce a wide range of fashion lines and fragrances, all inspired by the designer’s vision. Miles Davis and Grace Jones have also donned Miyake creations, and the turtleneck sweaters worn by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs are a testament to his influence. Despite retiring from fashion in 1997, he was still in charge of the design of his company’s clothing collections.
There will be no burial or memorial service, as announced in a statement from the Issey Miyake Studio and Miyake Group. The following is a collection of tributes for the late fashion designer.
