Is Will Byers gay in Stranger Things Season 4?
Fans of Stranger Things 4 believe that Will Byers is gay and in love with Mike, and Noah Schnapp has finally addressed the rumors. Fans have conjectured that Will might be gay ever since Stranger Things premiered on Netflix in 2016. In season 1, Joyce claims that before going missing, Will was bullied. She continues: “He is a tender young man. Lonnie once claimed to be gay.” After that, Will’s sexual orientation is never brought up, but various scenes in seasons 2 and 3 have given viewers the impression that Will is gay.
In episode three of Stranger Things, Will says: “For what purpose are you destroying everything? just so you and some idiotic female can trade spit?” Then Mike answers: “El is not a fool. You don’t like girls, and that’s not my fault.” It’s not clear if Mike is indicating that Will is gay or is merely pointing out that he doesn’t have a partner for Will. However, many of his followers believe that he is.
There seem to be several easter eggs in Stranger Things 4 that suggest Will is gay. Fans have noticed that he gives a presentation on famous gay mathematician Alan Turing for a school project and that he reacts shocked in the first episode when a girl tries to flirt with him. Above all else, he seems to be jealous of Mike’s love for El and genuinely in love with Mike.
In Stranger Things 4, Volume 2, there are more signs when Will confides in Mike, although he never outright discusses his sexuality. More information appears to be delayed until Stranger Things 4 Volume 2, but as Noah and Millie have noted, just because Will is in love with Mike doesn’t automatically mean he identifies as gay. He is not required to categorize his sexuality.
