Is Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 confirmed?
There are persistent rumors that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 is in the works. It was quite exciting to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprise their roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader for the first time since the prequel trilogy, especially because Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had promised the “rematch of the century.” There has been a lot of talk regarding the likelihood of an additional season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, despite the fact that the Disney Plus exclusive was advertised as a limited series and has not yet received a renewal. Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 may or may not be in the works as of the time of writing, according to Disney.
How likely is a second season?
Obi-Wan Kenobi became the most-watched premiere on Disney Plus globally based on the number of hours streamed in an opening weekend, so a second season would undoubtedly be a major success for Disney. A second series seems like it would at least be up for consideration with such great numbers. Along with such great results, Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor have both expressed openly their desire to have the opportunity to play Darth Vader and Obi-Wan in other films.
Speaking to Radio Times(opens in new tab), Hayden Christensen said: ”Well, it was definitely conceived as a standalone story. But I would love to continue with this character. You know, I think there’s certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so”, adding that if Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 was greenlit, he “would certainly be open to” appearing in it.
Ewan McGregor is just as enthusiastic about returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi. He also told Radio Times: “I hope it’s not the last time I play him. I had such a great time doing this” and teased, “I’m sure we can think of a few more stories before I turn into Alec Guinness, don’t you think?”
Joby Harold said: “I’m being asked about it constantly. I’ve just been thinking about this for so long as a close-ended story that my mind is so focused on this as a sort of limited [series], that I haven’t thought beyond it. But he’s a great character. They’re all amazing characters.”
When might the second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi air?
We received a deluge of announcements during the Star Wars Celebration, including a ton of concerts to look forward to between now and 2023. Along with that roster are the new animated anthology series Tales of the Jedi, Andor, Ahsoka, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and Star Wars: Visions season 2. (which is due to feature Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn). Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 was one program that was excluded from the roadmap. Therefore, until a spot opens up in that release timetable, a second series, even if it is in development, might not premiere for a few years.
