Is Fortnite Launching new game mode?
In Fortnite, vehicles are rarely used for anything other than getting from one place to another. They are rarely used except under extreme circumstances because to the fact that their user is an easy target. It’s true that there are tests when driving an automobile is a requirement. Chapter 3 Season 2 introduced the Titan Tank, the last vehicle to catch gamers’ interest. But recent rumors imply that Epic Games has something up their sleeves that will change how cars are used.
As such, it has been speculated that a racing game option will be added to Fortnite in the upcoming season. Dataminer ShiinaBR claims to have discovered evidence that suggests the game will have both casual and competitive modes.
If implemented, this vehicle-based mode would not be the first by developer Epic Games. Fifty teams of two pilot X-4 Stormwings as part of the Air Royale LTM. However, there is currently no evidence to show the use of any kind of weapons. It’s also possible that this mode will be a no-guns-allowed, skill-based racing experience.
The Nitro Drifter is now the most popular vehicle on the island of Chapter 4 Season 2. The emphasis isn’t strictly on speed, as the name suggests. Since the racing mode appears to be distinct from the battle royale, we can assume that the (now shelved) Whiplash will play a significant role in it.
It sounds like this mode would be excellent for testing out vehicles before introducing them to the battle royale.
An Advance Toward the Fortnite Multiverse?
It’s possible that adding a racing game option is part of Epic Games’ grander strategy to make Fortnite more than just a Battle Royale game. Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, has been dropping hints since December 2019 that Fortnite would become more than just “a game.” Fortnite has shown that it can be more than simply a Battle Royale game with the addition of Party Royale, an online social space within the game, as well as innumerable music performances and live events like Movie Nite.
Therefore, it would be the next natural step to make Fortnite more of a digital platform than a singular gaming experience by extending into additional game genres like racing. Assuming, of course, that the rumors are accurate. We know ShiinaBR has a good history of reporting Fortnite leaks, but as of right now, all we can do is wait.
