In Italy Shooting of ‘Dune: Part Two’ Begins

After the commercial and critical success of 2021’s Dune, it was only natural that work on the sequel, which will adapt Frank Herbert’s novel’s second half, would start right away. According to Deadline, filming on Dune 2 will start later this month in Italy.

Dune 2’s pre-production will kick off in Altivole, Italy at the Carlo Scarpa-designed Brion Tomb, with the film expected to hit theatres in 2019. On July 21, principal photography of the film will begin with the cast and crew in Budapest, Hungary. Denis Villeneuve will direct the movie again.

Several members of the original ensemble from the first film’s Dune will return for the sequel, including Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atriedes, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Stellan Skarsgrd as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. It was originally stated that Christopher Walken will play Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, and that Léa Seydoux would reprise her role as Lady Margot in the next sequel. Austin Butler, who recently appeared in Elvis, was reportedly in talks to portray Feyd-Rautha, and Florence Pugh (Black Widow) was in talks to play Princess Irulan Corrino.

Dune, which was released in October 2021 and was also made available on HBO Max, was a huge financial success, earning $401.8 million around the world. Rotten Tomatoes critics gave the film an 83% approval rating, and the general public gave it a 90% approval rating. The film’s immersive quality, feeling of scale, and accuracy to the original material earned high marks from critics and audiences alike. The film’s critical success earned it several honours, including six Oscars and five BAFTAs.

The Bene Gesserit are getting their own TV show, Dune: The Sisterhood, in addition to a sequel being made. The release date of Dune 2 was pushed back from October 2023 to November 17 of that year. Production is about to begin, so moviegoers will not have to wait long to return to the deserts of Arrakis. The film is scheduled for release sometime in 2019.

In 2023, on November 17th, Dune 2 will be launched. The film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and feature performances by Chalamet, Zendaya, Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Christopher Walken, and Lea Seydoux, with music composed by Hans Zimmer, who will also return for the sequel.
