HTC is reportedly planning a new VR headset that will compete with its Meta Quest
According to rumors, HTC is working on a new VR headset to rival its Meta Quest. HTC has been selling virtual reality headsets for years, but none have achieved the same level of success as the Meta Quest 2. There are probably several headset manufacturers, but none of them can match the Meta Quest 2 in terms of price and performance. With their new headset, HTC might not be able to unseat the Meta Quest 2, but they could be able to offer VR enthusiasts something a little more alluring than the Meta Quest Pro. Similar in the target market to the Meta Quest Pro, HTC’s next standalone VR headset could cost more than $1,000.
Due to its combination of VR and AR, the HTC headset competes with Meta’s recently unveiled Quest Pro and an unknown Apple AR/VR gadget. The HTC New Headset’s focus on AR experiences is one of its main advantages over the Meta Quest 2, and it should help differentiate the new headset from the latter. HTC plans to release its new top-of-the-line AR/VR headset next month. This will strengthen its position as a major player in the consumer virtual reality market.
In the upcoming years, it is anticipated that Apple and Facebook’s parent company, Meta, will release mixed-reality headsets. This might ultimately fulfill industry predictions that head-mounted devices would become the next significant development in personal computing. The arrival of the anticipated next-generation headsets from Meta, Pico, and Sony, as well as an anticipated headgear from Apple that is anticipated to deliver mixed reality experiences, will make 2023 a pivotal year for the VR (and, by implication, AR) industry. Although HTC now divides its consumer and corporate products, it appears that this upcoming headset will unify them.

Remember that you also need a powerful gaming desktop or VR-ready laptop that can push pixels into your headset’s display if you choose an HTC Vive, Valve Index, or Windows Mixed Reality headset. With a 1,440 by 1,600-pixel resolution for each eye, the HTC Vive Pro, Oculus Quest, and Valve Index tie for the highest resolution among the VR headsets on our list. Fortunately, low-cost, strong VR headsets are now available, so developers are making first-party games and enhanced versions that fully utilize VR.
The larger battery appears to be located somewhere on the rear of the headgear, giving it a look more similar to Microsoft’s augmented reality HoloLens 2 than to Meta’s current Oculus VR headset. Batteries are also placed on the back of Next On Deck by VR devices like the HTC Vive Focus 3 and a proprietary accessory produced by Meta to attach a battery to the Quest 2’s back. According to reports, the new headset’s battery life is comparably short—just two hours—to that of the Meta Quest 2.
