How to set up and use a VPN on Xbox
Using a VPN on Xbox isn’t straightforward because the console lacks native VPN compatibility or formal VPN apps. We advocate using a VPN-enabled Windows PC to share the benefits over an Ethernet wire to establish a connection without harming the entire network. It means you’ll need a Windows PC with an extra Ethernet port, which is required for sharing while keeping your internet connection stable.
VPN novices must first set up a VPN service in Windows 10 either through the service’s app or manually. We recommend ExpressVPN because of its extensive set of services and privacy-conscious practices.
You’ll need to share your VPN connection with your Xbox console if you’re using a Windows PC designed for VPN use. Follow the instructions below to share your existing PC VPN after connecting your PC and Xbox via an Ethernet connection.
- Connect an Ethernet cable between your Xbox and VPN-ready PC.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Click Settings.
- Click Network & Internet.
- Click VPN.
- Click Change adapter options.
- Right-click on your VPN icon. In our example we’re using Private Internet Access VPN.
- Click Properties.
- Click the Sharing tab.
- Check the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection box.
- Click the Select a private network connection box.
- Choose your Xbox’s Ethernet connection.
- Press OK.
- Press the Xbox button on your Xbox controller.
- Press the RB button three times.
- Select Settings.
- Select the Network tab.
- Select Network settings.
- Select the Test network connection tile. Your console should connect to the internet.
Your Windows PC must be running with an active VPN connection in order to use your VPN on Xbox. As a result, your Xbox Live traffic will be routed through your PC, giving you access to its VPN. You can now browse with increased ease and peace of mind.
