Fans of the New World enjoy battling it out on the streets of Aeternum, but some novice players may be wondering how to enable PvP and what benefits it offers.
New World, an Amazon Games MMO, has distinguished itself from the rest of the MMO community, owing to its focus on player against player combat (PvP).
Dueling, fighting in wars, and random brawls are all part of the game’s experience, especially for those aiming for higher-level end-game activities.
If you’re just getting started in New World, here’s everything you need to know about how and when to switch PvP on and off.
How to enable PvP in New World
While in a Sanctuary, or a secure section of the game, players can enable PvP by hitting “U.” Once you’ve left the safe zone, other players in the game will be able to attack you freely, but there are some advantages to doing so.
The perk of having PvP enabled, also known as flagging for PvP, is a 5% increase in XP. While this is a convenient approach to let players level up rapidly, it also puts lower-level adventurers at risk of dying at the hands of a higher-level foe.
If you have PvP enabled and die, you will have the choice of respawning at your previous settlement or at a nearby campsite if one is available. This is the same as dying at the hands of any other creature in Aeternum.
Players should be aware of the numerous ongoing exploits that players are utilising to make their characters practically unkillable in-game if they choose to enable it. The extra XP may not always be worth it if you’re merely trying to finish a mission.
New World PvP modes
In addition to the otherwise open-world PvP that the game delivers while players are flagged, New World has a few fixed PvP modes.
Once a player has joined a faction and reached level 10, they can challenge another player to a duel. These can be done individually or in groups of up to 5 people. Simply write “/duel name” into the game’s chat box, followed by the name of the player you’d like to duel.
Faction warfare are a defining feature of the New World. This is a 50v50 battle to determine which group will control a settlement. Sign up for these at a settlement’s War Board where your faction will be fighting.
Outpost Rush: This mode is only available to individuals who have reached level 60. A 20v20 match can be signed up for in a settlement in this late-game phase.
Each of these modes has its own distinct flavour, and the best way to become used to PvP in New World is to enable it and compete against other players in an open-world context.
Doing so outside of a settlement poses extremely little risk to the player and provides an excellent opportunity to practise movements, learn weapon animations, and prepare for the end-game Faction Wars and Outpost Rush.
