Henry Czerny, from ‘Mission: Impossible,’ joins the impressive cast of ‘Scream 6’
After the massive success of this year’s Scream, a sixth instalment in the franchise was soon greenlit, with nearly all of the key surviving cast members returning. Henry Czerny, of Mission: Impossible fame, has reportedly joined the cast of the next horror flick.
Czerny joins Melissa Barrera, Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega as terrifying survivors on Ghostface. Along with new prospective targets Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, and Josh Segarra, there is a lot of names to keep an eye on. The original franchise screenwriter Kevin Williamson serves as an executive producer, while filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett(Radio Silence) return for the murderous sequel. To be released soon, the new film will follow “the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a new chapter,” though the specifics of the plot are still being kept under wraps. New York City has been bandied about as a possible setting, making this instalment the first in the series to do so. However, that is only speculation at this point.
Fans of the franchise were upset to hear that Neve Campbell would not be appearing in the next film, but they are quite enthusiastic about Czerny’s involvement. Czerny’s best-known role may have been as IMF director Eugene Kittridg in the first Mission: Impossible film, but his character in Scream 6 remains a mystery. Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part One, with Czerny returning to the role, will premiere in theatres next summer.
While this is true, the actor has lately made waves in the horror world thanks to his role in the 2019 horror comedy Ready or Not, written and directed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett. The actor had a fantastic performance as a murderous father playing hide-and-seek with his newlywed son’s wealthy family after the wedding. The part was appropriate for a franchise like Scream, and Czerny added just the right amount of terrifying wit and brilliantly crazy comedy to it. Fans at the time of its debut drew parallels between Ready or Not and the undervalued horror classic Ready or Not to Scream, which may have been a factor in Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett being given the bloody keys to this popular franchise. So, it is going to be great to see Czerny and the rest of Radio Silence back together again for this sequel.
As filming for Scream 6 begins, we should have more information about the film and its March 31, 2023 release date. Until then, it is best to assume that Ghostface is hiding somewhere nearby.
