GTA 6 leak: Setting, characters, combat, and more details
Numerous elements regarding the much-anticipated crime fest have been confirmed by a sizable collection of leaked GTA 6 footage that has surfaced online. The leaked clip gives us our first look at GTA 6 in action, although in an incredibly raw form and across a wide range of work-in-progress gameplay. Gunplay and other gameplay elements are demonstrated, and the scenery contains hints about the characters and the location. Everything is still largely unfinished. The video footage is obviously from a work-in-progress build of the game because it is overlaid with technical measurements and debugging information. However, it is real. Rockstar requested the removal of many of the videos and screenshots that had been posted on social media after confirming the authenticity of the leaked footage. We now have to piece together precisely what was confirmed.
Vice City returns
The clip supports a leak from earlier this year that GTA 6 will be set in Vice City, Grand Theft Auto’s imagined Miami. In the films, you can see a lot of city landmarks and buildings with the phrases “Vice City” and “VCPD” written on their sides (presumably an initialism for the Vice City Police Department).
GTA 6, however, appears to be situated in the city in the present day. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, released in 2002, was set in the mid-’80s; however, the inclusion of cellphones and modern-looking vehicles suggests that GTA 6 will move the city into the present. Although you’ll be exploring more than just the city. There are also a few rural regions and what appears to be a marsh displayed. The Malibu Club and the Ocean View Hotel are just a couple of the familiar places that will be making a comeback.
The video claims that GTA 6 will include two main characters and the first major female character in the franchise. That is consistent with an earlier leak that alluded to the game’s multiple protagonists and claimed Rockstar was treating the characters with greater political delicacy than it had in prior games. According to the debug information, the Latina woman shown in the video is named Lucia, and her accomplice is Jason. They had already been compared to the Bonnie and Clyde gang, and this video surely supports that comparison. The criminal pair are seen stealing a dinner, stalling the cashier, and fleeing as the police show up in one of the videos that were shared. In one of the debug menus, Bonnie and Clyde are even specifically named.
The gunplay resembles GTA 5’s, with a few new gadgets and features added in. Assault rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns, pistols, and rocket launchers are just a few of the weapons the player is seen using, along with improvised weapons like golf clubs, baseball bats, and crowbars. At one point, they switch to using their other hand to hold their active weapon while also picking up a rifle off the ground to add to their arsenal.
It appears that you will also have new moves to try out. One video that was leaked shows the gamer firing an assault rifle in a complete 360-degree circle while leaning their entire torso out of a car window. In other instances, the player lays down, hides, and carries an NPC over their shoulder. That might enable covert, stealth-oriented firefights. Additionally, a new radial weapon selection panel is visible. Players will be able to recover or improve themselves mid-fight according to what appears to be a health kit or medicine of some sort.
A large number of Easter eggs
Even this leaked video contains a few references and easter eggs from the larger GTA universe that aficionados will recognize. Many of the in-game real-world businesses should be back, with LTD Gasoline already making an appearance. A thinly veiled spoof of Facebook called LifeInvader, the tongue-in-cheek social media site used in Grand Theft Auto, also appears.
Five stars or bust
The series’ iconic Wanted levels will be included in GTA 6, as expected. The film indicates that GTA 6 won’t be switching back to the six-star system used in earlier games in the series by displaying a five-star system similar to that of GTA 5. But there has been a police upgrade. Even after you’ve made your initial getaway, the police will search for you if they observe you getting into a stolen car. It’s realistic—after all, cars do carry license plates—and implies that avoiding the law will require more consideration.
Customization of characters
At least we’ve received confirmation that GTA 6’s character customization options exist, even though the leaks didn’t fully reveal them. The game’s lead female character, Lucia, is depicted in several costumes and hairstyles, proving that you may change your clothes and your hairstyle. After Saints Row’s granular boss factory earlier this year, it will be interesting to see how many options GTA 6 gives you for customizing your character.
