Google Pixel Fold could launch early next year
On October 6, Google will hold an event to introduce the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, its flagship models. However, if rumors are to be believed, the Google Pixel Fold, the company’s foldable phone, won’t be showcased during the event this year. The tech giant hasn’t made any formal statements about the plans for its foldable device, but according to one expert, the Pixel Fold might be unveiled in March 2023.
Recently, The New York Times(opens in a new tab) estimated that the Google Pixel Fold would debut in 2023. This occurred amid reports that Google would shift more than half of its high-end phone production from China to Vietnam over the next year. Display analyst Ross Young recently tweeted(opens in new tab) that the manufacture of the Pixel Fold may begin as soon as the end of this year, and the phone itself could arrive in March of next year, which fits with the previously mentioned 2023 schedule.
The analyst did state that he is “assuming” a March launch, so at the very least, this could indicate that the foldable will be available early in the year. Recently, the Fold was also leaked via Google’s own camera app, which ideally shows that the phone will soon be available. The Pixel Fold was expected to be released before the end of the year, according to earlier rumors. However, a later story asserted that Google had postponed the Pixel Fold once more and that its launch in 2023 was once again on track.
Long-circulating rumors about the Pixel Fold include Google’s allegedly novel plan to avoid using a notch on the device by possibly embedding the camera in the phone’s bezel. According to leaked camera hardware specifications, the Pixel Fold will have a 50MP camera in addition to two 12MP sensors and an 8MP camera. Given that the Pixel Fold is anticipated to cost $1,400, it may be less expensive than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup. Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which were just released at $1,799 and $999, respectively, it might rank as one of the best foldable phones.
We can only hope that the tech giant will reveal more about its foldable phone with the launch of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro in October because it did not mention the Pixel Fold at its Google I/O 2022 event in May. Regarding the future Pixels, there are rumors that they will receive an updated Tensor chip and cameras. While the Pixel 7 Pro is rumored to include an additional 48MP telephoto lens, the Pixel 7 could receive a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide lens. The two tech behemoths may have to battle for the title of most OK camera phone now that Apple has recently released the iPhone 14.
