Google canceled its partnership with Hideo Kojima for the follow-up game Death Stranding
According to a recent rumor, Google previously terminated its collaboration with Hideo Kojima for the exclusive Stadia follow-up game Death Stranding due to the game’s single-player focus. A recent study backs up accusations made by Google’s Hideo Kojima that the company abandoned a Stadia game because it thought there was no demand for a single-player experience. While Google Stadia struggles to get off the ground, one of the rumored titles might be on its way out. It has been suggested that one game on Google Stadia was made by Hideo Kojima, the man behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, though it is unclear whether the renowned programmer was ever truly involved in the production process.
Before all the commotion, Mr. Kojima reportedly collaborated covertly with Google on an episodic horror game for Stadia, according to VideoGameSchroncle. The Kojima Productions horror game was one of several significant Stadia projects that, according to VGC, were never finished. Following this, it was discovered that Google had scrapped the Death Stranding sequel. Reports say that Stadia turned down ideas for games that would only be available on Stadia from Hideo Kojima (Death Stranding) and Yu Suzuki (Outrun), as well as a multiplayer game made by former Assassin’s Creed staff.
In the wake of Google’s statement that Stadia would be shut down, a second report has emerged that not only confirms rumors but also provides more information on the deleted games. The revelation from VGC is not the first time we have heard about Kojima Productions’ scrapped game. According to rumors, Kojima Productions wanted to innovate in the field of cloud gaming, and the project would have given them the opportunity to do so but for Stadia’s general manager Phil Harrison. Many believe that any cloud-based initiatives Kojima is currently doing with Xbox were originally Stadia exclusives before Google removed all first-party Google projects.
Another source stated that Google had scrapped a different project with Shenmue developer Yu Suzuki, but Google themselves refuted this in a message to GamesRadar at the time. Of course, it’s quite possible that the recent rumors about Dead Stranding actress Margaret Qualley are true and that the ongoing Kojima Productions project that is actively being developed is not the greater undertaking. Kojima has never said that this project was canceled because of Google Stadia. He has also never said that this project is either a sequel to Death Stranding or a horror game with episodes.
According to reports, Xbox has been preparing for anything Hideo Kojima might require for the prolific developer’s upcoming game, including enlisting former Google Stadia personnel to assist in the development of Kojima, a cloud-based series horror game. Further information is unknown. According to reports, Hideo Kojima was eager to work on cloud-based technology for Stadia, but he has found another chance with Microsoft, and his next game is expected to be an Xbox exclusive. At the Xbox Bethesda showcase, Hideo Kojima acknowledged the persistent rumors that he is working with Xbox on a brand-new, cloud-based game, but little more information has been released.
