Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik Break Up After Singer’s Alleged Argument with Her Mom Yolanda
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik are no longer together. The supermodel, 26, and the singer, 28, have broken up, according to multiple reports.
“They are not together right now. They are both good parents though,” says a Hadid family friend. “They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild.”

Malik issued a statement earlier on Thursday in response to a TMZ claim that Gigi’s mother Yolanda was considering filing a police case against him for assaulting her, according to anonymous sources. Yolanda’s “false allegations” that he struck her were “adamantly” disputed by Malik, who told the outlet he “adamantly” denied them.
Malik claimed he wanted to create “a space where private family concerns aren’t thrust on the public stage for all to poke and pick apart” in a statement released on Twitter, adding that the incident “was and still should be a private matter.”
PEOPLE obtained confirmation from many sources. In his social media statement, Malik alluded to Yolanda. Khai, the couple’s 13-month-old son, is shared by the two ex-wives. The couple held her a birthday party in September, and several family members paid her tearful tributes.
When they stepped out together at an American Music Awards afterparty in November 2015, they fuelled romance speculations.
Following months of avoiding inquiries about their relationship, Hadid participated in Malik’s PDA-filled music video for his 2016 track “PillowTalk.”
Malik was asked about including his girlfriend in the music video on The Zach Sang Show a month later. “I appreciate what you’ve done there,” the singer replied, referring to the interviewer’s cunning line of questions, before adding, “very great.”
They also featured in a PDA-filled feature for Vogue in May 2016, with Malik referred to as Hadid’s “real-life boyfriend” in the feature.
After another Vogue cover shoot, travel, and birthday wishes, the pair announced their breakup in March 2018 after nearly two years together, with individual comments confirming the news.
“Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving, and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and friend,” Malik wrote in his statement at the time. “She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time; we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ”

The breakup didn’t last long, as they were later seen making out on the streets of New York City, fuelling reconciliation speculations. When Hadid posted a snapshot of the two cuddling up together on her Instagram Story, it added fuel to the fire.
Then, in August 2019, claims surfaced that Hadid was dating Bachelorette contestant Tyler Cameron, with a source telling PEOPLE at the time that “their dates are certainly real and he’s having a wonderful time.” Hadid and Cameron divorced in October, after dating for several months.
In January 2020, Hadid and Malik were spotted walking arm-in-arm in New York City after a period apart. On Valentine’s Day, they confirmed that the romance was back on.

The couple announced Hadid’s pregnancy in April 2020, after keeping it a secret during pandemic lockdowns.
