Fortnite Makes a Mistake, Returns Its Most Rarest Item After Giving it Away
Axe of Champions is only for champions, sorry about that!
Some Fortnite players were able to get their hands on one of the game’s rarest equipment, the Axe of Champions, only to have it snatched away within minutes. Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, has admitted that the whole affair was a mistake.
A sweaty emoji accompanies Epic’s official answer, which reads, “Oops,” in capital letters. Revocation of Axe of Champions from all Grand Royal qualifying players will be granted only to FNCS season champions this year until the end of Grand Royale.
There is an unique axe for the champions of Fortnite’s Champion Series, which is considered to be the most prestigious tournament in the official competitive scene. Become the season’s best squad in a region’s grand finals and you’ll get the gold-plated pickaxe.
The Axe of Champions can only be held by 21 players at a time, the strongest three-person teams from each of Fortnite’s seven competitive areas. Oh, and it changes hands every season. If you see someone wielding a pickaxe in-game, you know they’re one of the finest players in the world at Fortnite.
That all changed, though, when the Axe of Champions was sent to all Fortnite Grand Royale qualifiers. There were no longer just a handful of players with the trophy, but instead, tens of thousands of people had it. He joked about what servers might look like with so many axes in the wild. Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf won the NA East grand finals last month with teammates Muz and Mero (real names unknown).
The Axe of Champions is one of the most valuable items in the game, and Fortnite isn’t going to give it away for free, no matter how many people want it.
