Following Hailey Bieber’s recent interview, Selena Gomez wants everyone to be kind
After the release of the explosive Call Her Daddy interview with Hailey Bieber on September 29, the star of Only Murders in the Building had an essential message for fans. She revealed that she had heard “vile and disgusting” things said about the model and Justin Bieber.
The “ironic” singer emphasized the importance of being kind to each other in a TikTok live video, saying, “Love You Like a Love Song” and pointing out how “That’s exactly what I want.” it is that some have chosen to support her Rare Beauty line and Rare Impact Fund but ignore its message of spreading goodwill.
“It’s not fair because no one should ever be spoken to in the manner that I’ve seen,” she explained, “If you support Rare, I cannot thank you enough, but know that you are also representing what it means—and that is: Words matter. Truly matter.”
As she wrapped up her message, Selena, who has long advocated for mental health awareness and the importance of treating others with kindness, said, “I hope that you understand that this is much bigger than anything else.”
Fans of Selena and Justin as a pair became steadily larger throughout their eight-year on-and-off romance. However, after Selena and Justin’s breakup in early 2018 and Justin’s engagement to Hailey that June, the former couple became a focus of hate speech and harassment.
The Rhode founder told Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper on the September 28 episode,”A lot of the hate, and the perpetuation, comes from the misperception, ‘Oh, you stole him. It comes from the fact that they wished he had ended up with someone else and that’s fine. You can wish that all you want but that’s just not the case.”
The model added that there are no hard feelings between them since, despite the fact that the Wizards of Waverly Place alum has never publicly defended Selena from the abuse, there is no hard feelings whatsoever “I respect her a lot. There’s just no expectations. If that was something she felt was necessary, that would be amazing. But I just respect her, there’s no drama, personally.”
Since Hailey’s interview, however, fans have dug out a 2019 Instagram live in which Selena begged her audience not to attack anyone in the wake of the release of her smash breakup single “Lose You to Love Me”
“I am grateful for the response that the song is getting,” she continued. “I’m so grateful. However, I do not stand for women tearing women down. And I will never, ever be by that. So please be kind to everyone.”
At the time, Selena remarked, “It doesn’t matter what the situation is. If you’re my fans, don’t be rude to anybody, please. Don’t go off and say things that you just feel in the moment.”
