Father purposefully drives his Tesla with his children off a California cliff
Driving south on California’s Highway 1 in a white Tesla Model 3, the driver made a deliberate lane change and went off the road. A man (the assailant), a woman, a son and girl, ages 9 and 4, were all inside. Concerned for the worst, rescue teams were taken aback by the reality they encountered.
All four passengers were unharmed despite the car turning many times and dropping 250 feet. The wrecked car miraculously avoided plunging into the ocean by landing on the rocks. Devil’s Slide is the name of the spot in question.
There was no damage to or displacement of the children’s car seats.
It is unusual to locate survivors after such incidents on the picturesque highway, but they do occur. An planned action resulted in the best possible outcome.
A battalion chief of Cal Fire’s Coastside Fire Protection District, Brian Pottenger, spoke to CNN about the terrifying occurrence. “Accidents on that cliff are not rare. We do respond to a lot of vehicles on that cliff. What’s rare is that we do not get a lot of survivors – surviving this type of accident is very rare. It was nothing short of a miracle”, as he put it.
The youngsters were released by the workers, who used a rope to hoist them up in baskets. After that, an adult couple was rescued by a California Highway Patrol chopper. Everyone in the four-person cabin was discovered alert and safe.
While the adults suffered “non-life threatening injuries,” the children were completely unhurt. Pottenger added in, “It was a good outcome to a very bad situation.”
On Monday, police picked up 40-year-old Dharmesh Arvind Patel at Stanford Hospital, where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The California Highway Patrol has revealed that the incident that took place on Monday at 10:50 am PT was an attempted murder-suicide.
