Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler had fight outside octagon UFC 276
Neither Dustin Poirier nor Michael Chandler have their next fights planned, which possibly explains why the two competitors exchanged words cageside at UFC 276.
Promotion and event security separated Poirier and Chandler between the preliminary and main card bouts on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as shown in a video shared by UFC welterweight contender Gilbert Burns.
It is unclear how the confrontation started, but roughly a dozen persons stood in between the two lightweight contenders, including UFC COO Hunter Campbell, who broke a smile.
Poirier is overheard calling Chandler a “fake” and threatening to “f*ck you up.”
Both fighters have shown desire in a bout against the other, but Chandler’s words in December may be at the root of the animosity. Following Poirier’s submission loss to Charles Oliveira in a championship fight, Chandler stated that he would “never quit” in a major fight.
