Dreamworks plans to release the fourth film in the Kung Fu Panda franchise on March 8, 2024
Kung Fu Panda 4 is scheduled for release in 2024, according to Dreamworks. The Hollywood Reporter claims that Dreamworks is setting March 8, 2024, as the release date for the fourth Kung Fu Panda picture. The films in the franchise have grossed over $1.8 billion at the box office. Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness is one of three television shows based on the franchise, which has also spawned video games, theme park attractions, and a number of other media. The first movie came out in 2008 and set the ball rolling. The original was released in 2010, and two more installments were released in 2011 and 2016. Two of the three were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and all three were financially and critically successful (but lost to WALL-E and Rango, respectively).
Kung Fu Panda 4 Continues Dreamworks’ Underdog Story
To no one’s surprise, Variety claims that the plot of Kung Fu Panda 4 will revolve around Po (Jack Black), an overeager yet clumsy panda who works in his adopted father’s noodle business. Po, a kung fu fanatic, comes across a tournament by chance and is hailed as the legendary Dragon Warrior, the ultimate kung fu master predicted to appear in the world. In spite of being made fun of at first, he commits himself to his kung fu training, becomes friends with the Furious Five, and eventually becomes a heroic force. In the third installment of what was supposed to be a trilogy, Po meets his biological parents and decides to become a kung fu master.
Stars including Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, Jackie Chan, David Cross, and James Hong joined Jack Black in lending their voices to the franchise. Besides saying it will be out in 2024, nobody has revealed much about Kung Fu Panda 4. Audiences will have to wait for plot and casting specifics, but it seems likely that Jack Black will reprise his role as Po in the voiceover.
