Drake and Chris Brown have been named in a copyright infringement lawsuit.
Drake and Chris Brown are being sued for the song “No Guidance.”
Brandon Cooper and Timothy Valentine, aka Mr. Cooper and Drum’n Skillz, have filed a lawsuit against Drake and Brown, claiming the duo stole their song I Love Your Dress and turned it into No Guidance.
Cooper and Valentine claim in court documents obtained by TMZ that their song was released three years before No Guidance was released in June 2019. They claim that an examination of the beat, lyrics, hook, and rhythmic structure of both songs demonstrates that No Guidance was copied or derived primarily from I Love Your Dress.
They also claim Brown and Drake stole their lyric “she got it; she got it,” which appears 16 times in I Love Your Dress, and turned it into “You got it, girl; you got it” for No Guidance, which appears 11 times.
Cooper and Valentine also accuse the superstar duo of making light of the fact that they plagiarised the song by including a lyric about flying “the coop,” which the former claims is a play on his nickname, Coop.
The duo is suing for copyright infringement and seeking significant monetary damages.
Brown and Drake have not yet responded to the lawsuit.
