Dolly Parton receives $100 million from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos
Some people would consider $100 million a tremendous sum of money, but for Jeff Bezos, it’s peanuts. In any case, that shouldn’t detract from his recent nice gesture toward Dolly Parton.
The Amazon CEO presented the performer with his annual Courage and Charities Award. He spoke very highly of Parton, saying that she “leads with heart.”
Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sánchez, who presented Parton with the award that night, said it was given to “recognizes leaders who aim high, find solutions, and always do it with civility.”
In addition to her musical success, Parton is also known for her philanthropic efforts. The Dollywood Foundation is her most well-known endeavour; it was established in April 1988 and initially provided financial aid to high school students. The primary focus is on helping young people further their studies. Bezos lauded “she’s done for kids, literacy, and so many other things.”
Instead of keeping the money for herself, Parton can donate it to a cause close to her heart.
After receiving the honour, Parton shared the inspiration behind her philanthropic efforts: “When people are in a position to help, you should help. I know that I’ve always said, I try to put my money where my heart is. And I think you do the same thing. I will do my best to do good things with this money”
