Does Barney the Dinosaur’s redesign offend?
Many people grew up watching Barney the Dinosaur’s popular TV programme in the ’90s and singing along to the theme song, “I Love You,” but some are unhappy with the show’s recent makeover and the way it ended.
Now that Barney has gone digital, many people are complaining about the purple Jurassic emblem, even though there is nothing inherently wrong with it.
During an interview with Variety, Mattel’s chief franchise officer Josh Silverman remarked, “Barney’s message of love and kindness has stood the test of time,”
He went on to say, “We will tap into the nostalgia of the generations who grew up with Barney, now parents themselves, and introduce the iconic purple dinosaur to a new generation of kids and families around the world across content, products, and experiences.”
Mattel executive Fred Soulie added, “In creating the new series, it was important to us that we properly reflect the world that kids today live in so that the series can deliver meaningful lessons about navigating it,”
In a closing comment, Soulie said “With our modern take on Barney, we hope to inspire the next generation to listen, care, and dream big. We think that parents, many of whom will fondly remember the original Barney from their own childhoods, will love the show, too.”
