Disney’s latest Pinocchio trailer transform puppet into real life character
The latest trailer for Disney and Robert Zemeckis’s live-action Pinocchio film has been released (the man behind Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Polar Express). More of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth’s portrayal as the title character and Joseph Gordon-Jiminy Levitt’s Cricket are on display here than in previous trailers and TV spots.
Disney’s first teaser for the film was released in May, and it focused primarily on establishing the world and the plot before cutting off shortly before Pinocchio was brought to life. On the other hand, the new teaser gives us a glimpse of the puppet-turned-boy in action as he runs through the streets while chatting with a fox (who seems to be the ringmaster of a circus) and a pirate. Naturally, we also get to watch his nose expand after he lies.
To speak directly to the whale that consumes puppets: sure, another Pinocchio film is being released this year on a major streaming site, also directed by a legend and featuring well-known actors. It is interesting to contrast the latest teaser for Disney’s live-action version of the narrative with the one for Netflix’s stop-motion rendition, directed by Guillermo del Toro. In contrast to the latter, which feels like a fresh take on the plot, the former is more in line with Disney’s other recent remakes of its iconic films.
While Disney’s Pinocchio will debut on Disney Plus on September 8th, Netflix’s version will not be out until December.
