Destiny 3 Trends on Twitter as Fans discuss new game
Bungie, the studio behind the sci-fi shooter Destiny 2, was acquired by Sony as part of the company’s early efforts to build a live service strategy. The developer acknowledged earlier this month that they “missed the mark” with the quality of the Lightfall expansion, despite the fact that the expansion had a rather successful launch. You may be experiencing a sense of deja vu because the story’s title sounds vaguely familiar.
Some longtime fans of the franchise have had enough. Many players feel that the studio should start fresh instead of continuing to update a game that is already more than five years old. The podcast The Destiny Show responded with a trending tweet: That’s a “unpopular opinion,” it declared. “There absolutely must be a Destiny 3.”
Fans’ agreement in the comments section suggests that this isn’t an uncommon view. One user noted that “the cracks are starting to become more and more noticeable every day.” “There needs to be something new, it’s such a mess,” said another. Not everyone shares this optimism, though; a few members have voiced worries that the years they’ve spent “grinding for guns” have been wasted.
We know Bungie is up to something new, and it’s probably not related to the Destiny series. Even though PlayStation has acquired the company, its future releases will still support many platforms. We find it hilarious that Sony would invest in a studio that would be subject to frequent criticism from its player base in order to assist shape the company’s live service strategy.
