Danny Bonaduce Discusses His Mysterious Illness and More of Partridge Family
In May, Celia Bonaduce, Danny’s sister, took to Facebook to share the news that he was ill. On Monday, Danny Bonaduce said to Good Morning America that his speech problems began in April after his wife Amy had sensed something was wrong. Former child star of the 1970s TV show The Partridge Family Danny Bonaduce spoke out about his rise to fame.
“I couldn’t walk at all. I couldn’t do anything like that. She looked really nervous. And she said, ‘You’re not saying words, you’re not speaking English,’ which of course is preposterous to me. We called an ambulance and [it] took me to the hospital where I remained for the first five days and remember very little of it.”
The 62-year-old anchor of the Seattle radio show “The Danny Bonaduce & Sarah Morning Show” is now on medical leave. As Bonaduce elaborated on earlier:
“I couldn’t keep my balance. I slurred really badly. I was afraid of everything. I was afraid of my stairs for God’s sake – I was hoping for a diagnosis but did not get one.”
Even though Danny Bonaduce’s “brain is still a little fuzzy,” he has returned to work now that his symptoms are diminishing. Additionally, he would want to issue a public caution:
“There was nothing that said this was gonna happen. Take time to consider your health and what you’re doing. Pay attention.”
Doctors ruled out a stroke despite a battery of tests, and Bonaduce recalled his father having a similar episode and displaying similar symptoms, but they were unable to provide a definitive diagnosis.
Last May, Bonaduce spoke on what it was like to film The Partridge Family. The former child star claims that David Cassidy was cheated out of $600 every episode, while he himself made only $400. When asked to elaborate, he said that the kid performers on The Brady Bunch were paid more. According to Bonaduce, Cassidy took $25,000 worth of instruments, equipment, and the like from the concert before he resigned. Bonaduce admits his disappointment, but insists he did not steal anything. However, after consulting with her son, his mom returned to the set with a screwdriver and removed his nameplate from the dressing room door.
Bonaduce pondered David Cassidy’s choice to leave the “Partridge Family” after realising he did not want to play Keith Partridge any longer, so Cassidy resigned the programme to become a true rock ‘n’ roll star, only to have his departure from the show become the show is theme song. The rest of Bonaduce:
“He never did get the life he wanted. It really was a tragedy. I was in Europe when he died, but I heard he was surrounded by his family – Shirley Jones, Shaun Cassidy, Patrick Cassidy. And I heard his last words were, ‘So much wasted time.’
Danny Bonaduce says that Cassidy was essential in his recovery from substance abuse.
