Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field and required several minutes of CPR
Damar Hamlin, a safety for the Buffalo Bills, passed out on the field during their game against the Cincinnati Bengals. After the incident on Monday night, he was transferred to a hospital in Cincinnati, where he was subsequently listed in “critical condition.”
“Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition,” In a statement, the NFL confirmed.
Monday night’s scheduled NFL matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals has been postponed, the NFL stated. An NFL statement read, “Tonight’s Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapsed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced,”
Hamlin made a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins early in the game. Hamlin stood up, only to fall backwards into the turf. Before being taken by EMS to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Hamlin needed CPR on the field for many minutes.
For more than 10 minutes, ESPN reports, medical personnel performed CPR on the field and gave Hamlin oxygen while carrying him off on a stretcher.
Report said “The NFL, one of the most violent team sports, has been dealing with growing concerns in recent years over concussion injuries for players from hits to the head,”
The need for an ambulance to transport a player to the hospital is unprecedented, even though injuries are prevalent in the sport, according to onlookers.
Hamstring strains, muscle stains, knee ligament injuries, rotator cuff strains, ankle sprains, achilles tendonitis, jumper’s knee, shin splints, metatarsal stress fractures, and concussions are the most often observed injuries during football games.
“The safety of players in all sports is always the most important. It was a terrible thing to see and I wish nothing but the best for that kid. I am a huge fan of the NFL and football and you never want to see anything like that happen,” great basketball player LeBron James stated.
Hamlin’s legion of devoted fans and listeners have been saying healing prayers for him. Ira Turner, who represents Hamlin, said: “Please continue to pray for Damar and his family. We currently have no update at this time. Will ask that you keep the family in your prayers.”
