Christina Aguilera feels bad about her sexualization in the 2000s
One of the most popular and polarizing pop artists of the early 2000s was Christina Aguilera.
The singer best known for songs like “Lady Marmalade” had long been considered one of the world’s sexiest women, as evidenced by public and online displays of her beauty.
The artist looks back on that time in her career and considers how her image was sexified at the time.
Aguilera opened out about the difficult time leading up to the release of her hit single Stripped on the podcast Call Her Daddy.
She said “It’s funny that I played that persona because I was probably the last one to lose my virginity. It was later than you would think,”
The singer admitted that she was preoccupied with her records to the detriment of her personal life at the time.
She continued, “It was something that was for me. I had certain dancers that were close quarters. You’re traveling a lot and you have accessibility to only so many things, so it is what it is”.
Maybe I should have realized, he wasn’t looking at me. He wasn’t interested in me. He was looking at him.’ A lot of things that, I’m just like, ‘Oh, sad!’ I feel bad for my younger self,” Aguilera continued
Aguilera said she “didn’t really have time” for affairs when she was just starting out in the music industry, as she explained in a podcast. “I always looked for things I felt safe with” she added.
