Check Images: Smoke rising from the blaze at Rio Tinto Stadium covering clouds
Images taken Saturday night show thick clouds of smoke billowing over a soccer stadium after a nearby structure caught fire.
After the smoke got heavier and got closer to the spectators in Rio Tinto Stadium, terrified fans uploaded photographs and videos on social media.
The stadium was jammed for the Real Salt Lake vs. Columbus Crew match.
Reports said that the smoke was coming from a building that had caught fire near the stadium in Sandy, Utah.
“Update on the smoke behind the RioT, the At Home warehouse on 9000 is currently on fire,” Real Salt Lake FC tweeted.
“It’s the store behind the At Home store. The fire department is on site and have tamed the fire.”
A tremendous explosion had been heard by spectators just before the blaze broke out, they said.
There was apparently no effect on the game from the fire.
