Check 2023 IRS last submission date and IRS release refunds dates
The 2023 tax filing season officially begins in the United States today, January 23, 2023. Over 168 million personal tax returns will be submitted to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by the April 18th deadline.
After the lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 tax filing season will be another step toward a return to normal.
With the Inflation Reduction Act now in effect, the IRS has hired an extra 5,000 people to answer phones and ensure a stress-free filing process for taxpayers.
Since April 15th, the typical date for doing your taxes, comes on a Saturday this year, filers will get three more days to do so. When the deadline occurs on a weekend, the IRS pushes it to the next working day per the guidelines.
The IRS’s headquarters are in Washington, D.C., and the following Monday is Emancipation Day, a recognised holiday. As a result, the deadline will fall on Tuesday, April 18th.
If 2022 is anything like past years, taxpayers should expect their refunds to begin being issued around two weeks after they complete their taxes.
The sooner one files their taxes, the sooner they will receive their return, especially considering that March is the busiest month for the Internal Revenue Service.
It’s also worth noting that the IRS typically takes two to three weeks to verify applications for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC).
