ChatGPT is coming soon to the Azure OpenAI Service

OpenAI’s ChatGPT, with Microsoft’s backing, has already made waves in the tech industry, and now OpenAI has announced the release of its API, making ChatGPT adaptable to a wide range of businesses and use cases. While there is currently no evidence that OpenAI intends to charge for access to its API, doing so could provide the company with a new source of income. OpenAI has begun “considering how to commercialize ChatGPT,” and ChatGPT Professional is supposedly in development at the firm. “Increased capacity and enhanced efficiency are two of the benefits it will provide,” openAI’s president and co-founder Greg Brockman said.

OpenAI announced on Twitter that ChatGPT would soon be available via their API and Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service, complete with a link to a publicly accessible form. “Since the Research Preview launch of ChatGPT, we have been blown away by the excitement around ChatGPT and the desire from the developer community to have an API available,” the form reads. Businesses will be able to use “high-performance AI models at scale with industry-leading uptime for businesses and developers” thanks to Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service and the ChatGPT API.

In layman’s terms, the integration could aid businesses large and small in using AI to respond to user questions or alleviate user frustrations across a variety of use cases. Additionally, small businesses can greatly improve their customer service by responding quickly to customer inquiries. At the same time, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took to Twitter to share news of the expansion of Azure’s OpenAI Service, which will provide users with access to language models like the GPT 3.5, upon which ChatGPT is based. In a recent tweet, Satya announced that “ChatGPT is coming soon to the Azure OpenAI Service, which is now generally available, as we help customers apply the world’s most advanced AI models to their own business imperatives.”

In the blog post, Microsoft’s Vice President of the AI Platform, Eric Boyd, said, “With Azure OpenAI Service now generally available, more businesses can apply for access to the most advanced AI models in the world—including GPT-3.5, Codex, and DALL•E 2—backed by the trusted enterprise-grade capabilities and AI-optimized infrastructure of Microsoft Azure to create cutting-edge applications.”

He added, “Customers will also be able to access ChatGPT—a fine-tuned version of GPT-3.5 that has been trained and runs inference on Azure AI infrastructure—through the Azure OpenAI Service soon.”

The parent company of ChatGPT, OpenAI, reportedly received $1 billion from Microsoft in 2019 and a further $2 billion to support its development, with plans to invest another $10 billion to compete with industry giants like Google, Amazon, and Apple. According to a report in The New York Times, OpenAI is working on GPT-4, a more sophisticated “generative AI” that may generate images in addition to text. Employees and VCs at Microsoft are said to have seen it in action, but the company has not officially announced any plans to release the product.
