Carolina Panthers part ways with veteran kicker Graham Gano after eight seasons

The Panthers are moving on from another longtime veteran, kicker Graham Gano.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that the Panthers are cutting kicker Graham Gano.

In a heartfelt goodbye post on Instagram Gano’s wife indicated the team was moving on

Gano spent the past eight seasons in Carolina, which included four playoff appearances and a Super Bowl run.

We all know Gano missed 2019 due to his knee injury. this is when the Panthers moved on with Joey Slye and now they have made the switch permanent.

Gano has been a reliable booter with a good leg. He made 14 of 16 field goals in 12 games in 2018., including a 63-yarder, and hit 30 of 33 PATs.

However, it’s not clear if he is completely healthy as of now, looking at the consistent need for talented veteran kickers, Gano should definitely find a job this season. We are sure he is on every team’s check-in list.

This move by Panthers saves them $2.8 million on the salary cap at the same time leaves another $1.5 million in dead money for the next two years. It will add up to Carolina’s league-high dead money figure in 2020, which is estimated to be more than $41 million before Gano’s release.
