Caitlyn Jenner criticizes Nike’s “woke” deal with trans woman Dylan Mulvaney
Caitlyn Jenner, a former Olympic decathlete and reality TV celebrity, has expressed her disappointment in Nike’s decision to sponsor transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Jenner who is trans woman is upset that Allyson Felix an Olympic star did not receive a similar offer from Nike.
On Thursday, Jenner posted a scathing attack on Nike, calling the brand “so woke” for rejecting an endorsement contract with Felix. Jenner criticized Nike for its treatment of Felix, who claimed the company offered her a 70% pay cut and denied her demands for maternity coverage after she became pregnant in 2017, but congratulating Mulvaney for winning the agreement.
Because of this, Felix’s contract with Nike ended and she eventually signed with Athleta. Jenner thinks Nike could have done more to include Felix rather than just paying off Mulvaney.
She said that “We can be inclusive but not at the expense of the mass majority of people, and have some decency while being inclusive. This is an outrag
The iconic position of the Nike brand in American culture and Jenner’s adoration for its founder, Phil Knight, are the sources of her annoyance. She doesn’t think Nike’s ideals are reflected in the company’s decision to promote Mulvaney over Felix.
“As someone that grew up in awe of what Phil Knight did, it is a shame to see such an iconic American company go so woke!” Said Jenner.
It is unknown how much Mulvaney is getting from the arrangement, but she likely received a considerable sum given that she has around two million Instagram followers. Olympic athletes like Jenner are upset by Nike’s choice. In response to Nike’s decision, silver medallist Sharron Davies has called for a boycott, calling it “a kick in the teeth” to women.
Business decisions made by Mulvaney in recent times have also come under investigation. Kid Rock, frustrated at her collaboration with Bud Light, threw beer cans. Nike has yet to address Jenner and the other Olympians’ criticisms.
