Boxing world champ Gervonta Tank Davis was arrested on a domestic violence charge in Florida
According to jail records, boxing champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was taken into custody on a domestic assault complaint in Florida on Tuesday. According to records, the 28-year-old boxing champion was charged with violence and placed in the Broward County jail. There were no immediate details provided about the arrest or the suspected domestic violence incident. Davis was previously arrested for domestic abuse. He was seen on camera snatching his ex-girlfriend, who also happened to be the mother of his child, by the throat in 2020 at a charity basketball tournament at the University of Miami.
Days after the video went viral on Twitter, Davis turned himself in to the police and was charged with simple battery and domestic abuse. Injuries to the victim’s lip and jaw were noted in the arrest record at the time. On January 7, Davis and Hector Luis Garcia are scheduled to square off in Washington, DC. It’s uncertain if his arrest on Tuesday will have an impact on the game. In three weight classes, the Baltimore native has held numerous world championship titles, including the WBA lightweight title since 2019. He is still unbeaten after 27 victories and 0 defeats in more than nine years of professional boxing.
On January 7 in Washington, D.C., Davis, a 28-year-old boxer from Baltimore, is slated to face Hector Luis Garcia in the main event of a PBC pay-per-view event. The battle will serve as a warm-up for a superfight versus Ryan Garcia scheduled for April 25 in Las Vegas. Davis is a former 130-pound champion (27-0, 25 KOs).
According to court records, Davis is also scheduled to appear in Baltimore Circuit Court on February 16 for his alleged involvement in a separate hit-and-run incident that happened in November 2020. In an accident involving four people, including a pregnant woman, Davis is accused of evading the scene. He is accused of 14 offenses, including failing to return and stay at the site of an accident that resulted in bodily injury. He also has to deal with a civil lawsuit.
Additionally, Coral Gables (Florida) police said that Davis was charged with two misdemeanor counts of violence for an incident in February 2020 in which he “was spotted hitting his former girlfriend.” According to court documents, that lawsuit was closed on December 13.
