Biden will not be meeting with the Saudi crown prince during the G20 summit
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Friday that President Joe Biden would not be meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman at the upcoming Group of 20 industrialised nations meeting in Bali.
As Biden left the COP27 United Nations climate change summit in Egypt, Sullivan made the comments to reporters. Biden will next attend the G20 gathering in Bali, beginning on Sunday.
Biden had lunch with the crown prince in July. Months later, the Saudi-led OPEC+ cartel reduced oil production, dealing a blow to the Biden administration’s efforts to rein in domestic gas prices and inflation.
On Saturday, Biden arrived in Phnom Penh for the ASEAN summit, which will take place before the G20 summit in Bali the following week.
While in ASEAN, Biden was scheduled to meet separately with the heads of Cambodia, Japan, and South Korea in addition to attending the COP27 climate crisis conference in Egypt.
