Berserk will continue without Kentaro Miura
Berserk was left unfinished in 2021 when the world-renowned manga artist Kentaro Miura died of cancer at the age of 54.
Now, Berserk will continue under the supervision of Kouki Mori, a personal friend of Miura and a manga artist in his own right, as confirmed by Young Animal, the comic book publisher that syndicated Berserk.
Mori claims that he and several of Miura’s helpers discussed the Berserk manga’s logical ending before to Miura’s death and that he knows how Miura meant to conclude the narrative.
Among Miura’s best-known works is Berserk, a dark fantasy manga that takes place in a horrific medieval-inspired world. It began publication in 1989 and had a profound impact on a wide range of works of fiction. Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Final Fantasy are just some of the video games and manga/anime that bore the stamp of Miura’s influence.
Berserk’s plot “up to the very end,” Mori said in a statement. “I think people with good intuitions would realise by now that I know the story.”
But I can not claim I can sketch it since I already know what it looks like,” he said. To compose a masterpiece like Berserk, only a genius like Kentaro Miura is capable.
“However, a great responsibility has fallen on me.”
Former Miura employees contacted Mori, stating they wanted to finish the final chapters left abandoned by Miura, Mori claims. Mori volunteered to provide a hand, As soon as Mori got in touch with Young Animal, he was able to get everyone’s blessing and agreement to finish the narrative.
“I have a message and promise to everyone,” Mori explained. “I will recall the details as much as possible and tell the story. Also, I will only write the episodes that Miura talked to me about. I will not flesh it out. I will not write episodes that I don’t remember clearly. I will only write the lines and stories that Miura described to me. Of course it will not be perfect. Still, I think I can almost tell the story that Miura wanted to tell.”
Berserk’s “although imperfect” to be brought to life, according to a statement from Young Animal, was to use this approach, “best way” A new arc will be started when the current “Fantasia Arc/Elf Island Chapter” is finished. That story arc should conclude Berserk, I assume.
“We believe that Berserk has touched the hearts of many fans, and Mr. Miura would be happy to know that his thoughts have had a great influence on people’s lives and work,” stated Young Animal. “We hope that everyone will continue to have the same connection with Berserk in the chapters to come.”
