On June 17, Lakeshore Records will release Becoming Elizabeth — Original Series Soundtrack digitally. The score is a hybrid of electronics and strings orchestra, featuring synths, choirs, and strings to create a modern yet familiar backdrop to the historical drama based on the young Elizabeth Tudor. Anya Reiss created and wrote Becoming Elizabeth, which stars Alicia von Rittberg as Elizabeth I. Starz broadcasts new episodes every Sunday

Becoming Elizabeth — Original Series Soundtrack will be released digitally on June 17 by Lakeshore Records.

“Anya’s scripts very purposefully referenced a wild palette of musical cues, which I thought indicated a desire to shake us out of any ‘period drama comfort zone,’ but also had the effect of plugging the story directly into modern-day sensibilities,” Phillips said. “As a result, I set about assembling an instrumentation that included a variety of found sounds from my country home as well as modern synths and instruments, string orchestra, choir, and so on.” Micro tuning is used in parts of the score to mimic animal sounds that the Tudors would have recognised. The theme tune is the central pillar of the score, which riffs on it in a variety of ways, but each character has their own language. We purposefully avoided any period instrumentation or compositional techniques, and I believe this gives the piece a contemporary energy and immediacy.”
