Atlanta Season 3 Trailer: Donald Glover Teases Paper Boi’s Ascension in a cryptic teaser
With the first look at season 3 of “Atlanta,” Donald Glover gave fans a Halloween gift. Glover alluded to a site called Gilga.com in a tweet titled “Happy Halloween,” which featured a minute-long promo for the next season. The trailer closes with a view of Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) wearing a shirt that reads “FAKE” in front of servants facing the wall, among bleak visuals and Sun Ra’s haunting “It’s After The End Of The World.” The trailer closes with a 2022 release date tease.
FX Networks and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf revealed in September 2020 that “Atlanta” was pushed back from its original release date of 2021 due to a pandemic-forced production slowdown. “Atlanta’s” third and fourth seasons were shot and written concurrently, with one season set in Atlanta and the other in Europe.
Glover has been quite busy recently, having signed an eight-figure overall deal with Amazon Studios in February. In March 2020, he released “3.15.20,” his fourth studio album under the Childish Gambino pseudonym.
He discussed his vision for the third season of “Atlanta” at a 2018 Emmys FYC screening and panel event.
“I align the seasons I think, to me, like Kanye records,” he said. “I feel like this is our ‘Graduation.’ This is probably our most accessible but also the most real — and honest version of it — and I feel like the most enjoyable, like the third album. We were all on iMessage together and kind of talking about it, and I think people were really hungry to like beat ourselves, which is great.”
