Apple looks set to unveil new MacBook Pro models on January 17
On Tuesday, January 17, Apple is rumored to introduce updated MacBook Pro laptops. Several sources indicate that the tech giant will make an announcement, with Bloomberg’s usually trustworthy Mark Gurman speculating that the M2 chip will arrive in Apple’s 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops at long last. Although no release date was specified at the time, Gurman first reported in October that Apple was developing new MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. Apple introduced the M2 chip in June 2022, and as of this writing, it is only found in the 13-inch model of the MacBook Pro.
The 2022 MacBook Air is the only other Apple laptop to feature the M2 chip. According to Gurman, Apple will host press briefings “later this week,” and the embargoes will be lifted on Monday, January 23. This will allow reviewers to share their initial impressions of the new products. Mac Rumors and 9to5Mac are among the other publications that have reported Apple’s plans to make an announcement on Tuesday via the Newsroom section of its website, citing unnamed sources. If this occurs, you may also want to keep an eye on Apple’s YouTube channel, where the company has been known to release promotional videos for its latest MacBook Pros.
The new MacBook Pros may be the first in the line to feature Wi-Fi 6E, which, if you have a compatible router, will result in improved Wi-Fi performance. This is in addition to a more powerful chipset. The rumored touchscreen MacBooks that Apple is developing are not part of tomorrow’s rumored unveiling. Indeed, the new MacBook Pros are expected to look identical to the outgoing models in terms of physical design.
A recent rumor indicated Apple could introduce the new M2 models at its Worldwide Developers Conference event in June, but today’s events indicate an announcement will be made tomorrow. If that turns out to be the case, you can count on us to report the development here on Digital Trends. If Apple does indeed make the announcement this week, it will be the company’s first new product launch of 2023.
