Apple is working on a new HomePod 2 Smart Speaker
Apple is apparently hard at work developing a new HomePod speaker that, with a few significant adjustments, closely approaches the original model’s appearance and audio quality, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The first of these is reportedly Apple’s future S8 chip, which will also likely be found within the Apple Watch Series 8 later this year. Additionally, according to Gurman, there will be a new display and multi-touch capabilities, but there is less certainty that the latter will ever materialize.
Right now, the HomePod Mini is the only way to satisfy your need for an Apple smart speaker without buying a used HomePod. While we were sorry to see the first, sonically better HomePod go, we’re equally (yet pleasantly) startled that, if Gurman’s rumors are accurate, we may see a redesigned model launch as early as 2023.
Beyond these rumors, there isn’t much to go on, but it’s not the most absurd speculation we’ve seen on new Apple technology. You can be sure that we’ll keep an eye out for any new rumors coming out of Cupertino, not just about the HomePod but also about Apple’s AR/VR headset and vehicle. We have the release of the iPhone 14 and the previously announced Apple Watch Series 8 to look forward to in the interim. Check out our guides on each of the aforementioned topics, and we’ll keep you updated with the most recent information as it becomes available.
