Apple iMac 27 2022: Release date, Price, Specifications, and Rumors

Apple iMac 27 2022: Release date, Price, Specifications, and Rumors

Early in 2020, Apple updated the iMac 27 with 10th-generation Intel Core processors and AMD Radeon 5000-series graphics cards. Apple’s high-end all-in-one PC is a little out of date now that two CPU generations and one GPU generation have passed since those components were first released.

This is most likely due to Apple’s desire to release a version of this computer that uses its own silicon, similar to the M1 Max found in the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros. However, because this is a desktop computer, it requires a little more horsepower.

Apple could wait until it has a more powerful desktop-class processor before releasing a new version of this PC, but it’s also plausible that it will use the M1 Max to power it and reveal the iMac 27 at its March 8 event.

However, until Apple reveals official details regarding the iMac 27 2022, we won’t know anything about it. Until then, we’re compiling all of the latest news and speculations, as well as some personal speculation. Keep this page bookmarked, and we’ll make sure to keep you informed.

     iMac 27 2022 release date

We’ve noticed several rumors that imply that iMac Pro with a 27-inch display will be released in early 2022. If that’s the case, Apple will almost certainly reveal it at its March 8 hardware event, as it’s becoming a little late to call it “early 2022.” That is, however, for an iMac Pro.

Apple is unlikely to offer a new iMac Pro without also releasing a standard iMac 27 – unless the iMac 27 is being phased out entirely. In any case, the reveal is most likely to take place in March.

It’s likely that Apple will save it for WWDC 2022 if it doesn’t emerge at tomorrow’s Apple March Event. That convention is often targeted at professionals, which is precisely who the iMac 27 – both Pro and non-Pro – is designed for. So, even if the iMac 27 isn’t announced at tomorrow’s event, we won’t have to wait long.

     iMac 27 2022 price

It’s a little difficult to say how much the iMac 27 will set you back. It’s entirely possible that Apple may charge a premium to replace the recently discontinued iMac Pro. When it was first released, the iMac Pro cost $4,999 (£4,899, AU$7,299). That’s thanks to the high-end Intel Xeon processor and the beautiful 5K display.

However, if Apple decides to replace the existing iMac 27 with 10th-generation Intel Core CPUs, the price will most likely remain at $1,799 (£1,799, AU$2,799). We’ve seen a leak that claims it’ll cost roughly $2,000, which leads us to believe Apple will take this path instead.

We don’t expect the new iMac 27 to be as pricey as the 2017 iMac Pro if the M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs are used. Apple’s new CPUs, as strong as they are, aren’t quite ready to take on a Xeon-class device just yet. It would be interesting to see Apple come up with something similar.

    iMac 27 2022 specifications

Many of the speculations that have been circulating recently have used the term “iMac 27” but also suggested that it will be powered by the M1 Max. The M1 Max isn’t quite ready to take the place of the iMac Pro’s absolute beast of a processor – at least not if Apple wants to satisfy the type of consumer who spends $5,000 on a computer.

However, given that the old iMac Pro has been retired, Apple may be working on a revamp, similar to what it did with the iMac 24 in 2021. With its vividly colored appearance, Apple might position the iMac 24 as a consumer product, while the iMac 27 would serve professional users who want a bit more computer capability.

There have also been reports that Apple will release a Mac Pro, however, according to MacRumors, famed Apple leaker Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that the Mac Pro will not be released until 2023. If Apple were to release a Mac Pro with its own silicon, it would need something that could compete with the world’s most powerful server-class hardware, which the M1 Max is clearly not capable of accomplishing right now.

If the iMac 27 is truly announced at Apple’s March 2022 event, this leads us to believe it will be a consumer-grade product.

This is only speculation on our part, but the iMac 27 2022’s specs are anticipated to start with the M1 Pro or Max, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. Of course, from there, you may spec it out. However, because the M1 Max is a system-on-a-chip (SoC) design, we don’t think you’ll be able to specify a dedicated GPU like you can with the existing iMac 27, and it’s unlikely Apple will support third-party hardware in one of its flagship products in this day and age.
