Anne Hathaway has been cast in ‘THE IDEA OF YOU’ with Michael Showalter set to direct
Director Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, The Eyes of Tammy Faye) has been tapped to helm Amazon Prime Video’s The Idea of You. Anne Hathaway will play the lead part in the upcoming film The Idea of You, which will also include Gabrielle Union, Cathy Schulman, and Kian Gass in producing roles. The novel by Robinne Lee, titled “The Idea of You,” 2017 serves as the basis for the film. In an effort to reconnect with her teenage daughter Isabelle’s divorced mother Solène Marchand (played by the novel’s main character) takes her to Coachella, where they meet Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of Isabelle’s favorite boyband.
The official book blurb depicts Solène and Hayes’s relationship as “a series of clandestine trysts [that] rapidly blossoms into a passionate and real partnership.” This partnership isn’t without its challenges, what with Solène’s daughter and Hayes’ mid-twenties age difference. Solène and Isabelle’s relationship is accidentally leaked to the press, making them paparazzi targets. This prompts Solène to reflect on the impact of her decisions on herself and others around her.
Anne Hathaway will play the role of Solène Marchand in the film version of The Idea of You. With a resume that includes parts in Alice in Wonderland (2010), Rio (2011), Interstellar (2014), and Ocean’s Eight (2018), Hathaway has been a Hollywood mainstay for quite some time. Her casting was confirmed in June 2021.
Michael Showalter, the man behind movies like Wet Hot American Summer (2001), Stella (2005), Children’s Hospital (2013), and most recently Search Party, has his own impressive resume in addition to directing The Idea of You (2016). Filming on Amazon Prime Video’s The Idea of You, which will be directed by Showalter and set to begin in December, has been reported by Deadline. Hathaway, Gabrielle Union, Kian Gass, Eric Hayes, Jordana Mollick, and Robinne Lee, creator of The Idea of You, will join Showalter as producers for Welle Entertainment on The Idea of You. In addition to writing the script, Jennifer Westfeldt (Friends With Kids) will also be the film’s executive producer.
