Alec Baldwin’s tribute to Halyna Hutchins has been met with criticism
After paying respect to Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was killed in a horrific accident on the set of “Rust” last year, Alec Baldwin has received criticism.
Baldwin commemorated the first anniversary of Hutchins’s on-set accident by posting a photo of him to Instagram.
“One year ago today…” , he captioned the photo.
Actors Leslie Jordan, Cheryl Hines, and Lesley Ann Warren, among others, left supportive comments for Baldwin.
While Baldwin did receive a lot of supportive feedback, other commenters were not than nice, claiming the post was insensitive.
“Is this not incredibly tone deaf to anyone else? Especially because he denies doing it? ……” wrote one commenter, with another posting, “Is that the person u shot?”
Someone else questioned, “Why would you even post this? Seems exploitive given you’re getting all the attention from your fans instead of everyone focusing on her and her poor family,” while other comments included, “I’m not exactly sure how to react to this post,” and, “If I was her family, you’re the last person I’d want posting about her.”
Regarding the unfavorable feedback, one user advised, “Man you should turn the comments off this post 😬”
Baldwin, who stars in and produced “Rust,” joined the other producers in paying a wrongful death settlement to Hutchins’ widower, Matthew Hutchins, earlier this year. Baldwin and the producers settled their differences by agreeing to finish filming and adding Hutchins to the production team in the role of executive producer.
Hutchins stated at the time of the settlement, “I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame” (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin).
When asked to elaborate, he said, “All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. “I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”
