A derailed steam train at a Missouri amusement park has left seven people hospitalized
On Wednesday, a passenger steam train at a theme park in Missouri derailed, sent seven people to the hospital.
On Wednesday night, Silver Dollar City Attractions issued a post on Twitter confirming that a portion of the Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train had gone off the tracks. An ambulance took seven people (6 customers + 1 worker) to local hospitals.
Several local rescue teams rushed to Silver City Theme Park, located only a short distance to the northwest of Branson, after the tragedy.
Nexstar’s KOLR reported that Tom Martin, director of Stone County’s office of emergency management, indicated that no passengers sustained life-threatening injuries.
Martin claims that the train was nearly at capacity at the time.
Officials are still investigating what caused the train to derail. In its statement, Silver Dollar City provided no further context.
Authorities said, “At this time, we are wholeheartedly focused on providing support for guests and team members in partnership with Stone County first responders, Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.”
According to Tripadvisor, Silver Dollar City is one of the best things to do in Branson, Missouri. The park’s origins can be traced back to the area immediately surrounding the entrance of Marvel Cave, a damp limestone cave that was opened to the public by a Canadian businessman and his two daughters in the late 1800s.
The Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train, for example, was added to the park later on and provides a “leisurely 20-minute steam train ride through the beautiful Ozark countryside,” as the park’s website puts it. Roller coasters, water rides, and a visit to Marvel Cave are among the park’s many offerings.
