22-year-old woman dies after 18 hours in car during blizzard
A woman from North Carolina was among those killed by the epic blizzard that hit the Buffalo, New York, area over the Christmas holiday.
Family members of Anndel Taylor, 22, of Charlotte told ABC affiliate WSOC-TV that she died when her car became trapped in the snow while she was returning from work in Buffalo.
The report states that Taylor’s family believes she was trapped in her car for 18 hours before she died. Her untimely demise occurs just before she would have turned 23.
Taylor’s sister Shawnequa Brown told the media, “[There’s been] a lot of crying.”
To date, at least 27 individuals have lost their lives in Buffalo because of the storm. Taylor is one of them. Fifty individuals have been killed around the country.
On Monday, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz of New York revealed that some people had perished because rescuers had been unable to reach them in time due to the storm.
According to WSOC, Taylor’s loved ones believe she is one of the victims. According to rumours, she dialled 911 after her automobile became mired in snow, but no one arrived to assist her.
Tomeshia Brown, Taylor’s sister, told the media, “”I feel like everybody that tried to get to her got stuck,” Those trying to help (the fire department, the police, etc.) were themselves trapped.
According to the WSOC article, Taylor posted video of snow covering the windows of her car with her family through a group chat and warned them that the snow was piling up fast.
“She was telling my sister that she was scared,” Brown added.
Taylor’s mother, Wanda Brown Steele, said that her daughter had planned to walk home after spending the night in the car during the storm.
She thinks Taylor was poisoned by carbon monoxide. “The car was running and the snow was still coming, so it blocked the pipes, the exhaust pipe,” Steele said, as quoted in the story.
She said, “After the car cut off, that’s when she iced up.”
As a result of Taylor’s untimely passing, his friends and family have raised almost $15,000 through GoFundMe.
Taylor’s sister wrote on the GoFundMe page, “As you all may know one of my daughters, our sister, your friend, has passed away by accident in a blizzard that occurred in Buffalo, NY on December 23rd and 24th. “She was stuck in her car for hours/days which caused the snow to continue to build up on her car causing her to be unable to get out. We are currently trying to put Services together to say our final goodbyes.”
Shawnequa Brown added, “Anything and everything you assist us with,”
